As you sit here reading this, think about the activity you have undertaken today. Have you been busy or have you been taking it easy? Have you taken focussed and directed action, or been busy for busy-nesses sake? This post discusses a darker topic today, however, please read to the end – humanity depends on it!
If there is one thing we all share it is that we are all born, and eventually, we all die. It looks a bit harsh when I look at it written on the screen, but ultimately, isn’t that all we truly have in common? One day, we will be taking our last breath and, depending on your beliefs and faith, leaving this reality for something, or nothing, else.
Like everyone, I have had friends and family I love reach that moment, where that second of finality arrived. It left in its wake the rest of us with feelings of grief, sorrow and sometimes a little relief for the removal of pain felt by that soul during the final hours, days or weeks.
This week is an anniversary of the passing of someone who affected my life, not just in life, but also in what they taught me about the experience of cancer and quality of life. So I sit here reflecting on how they influence my activities today, even though it has been a full year since their passing. Remembering this individual and others that have gone before is both sobering and uplifting at the same time.
For it is what we can leave behind, our legacy, that can have an impact lasting longer than our physical existence. We can influence those around us into being better, stronger and more fulfilled individuals. We can take hold of a dream, weave our own little magic and bring into reality something brand new – an idea, an item, an experience – available to influence humankind forever more. Think of the stories, songs and movies that have moved and motivated you, and you are recognising a new creation made available for all time.
One of my favourite orators is Les Brown – a man who can express himself greater than any other I know. He has legendary status in the public speaking arena as he can take a room of thousands of people and change their lives, simply with words – a series of letters grouped into obligatory meaning that can transport us to become one with the Universe, or so far inside our minds we no longer recognise we exist.
There is a speech Les Brown has given that has been put to video available on YouTube. It questions whether we are selfishly with-holding our dreams, whether when we take our last breath we have not prized humanity with leaving the legacy of the best us, the magic of a brand new reality from our dreams that can benefit a few or many.
Are you with-holding your dreams? Are you ‘selfishly’ believing it’s too hard or not worth it, or even that you need to be focussed on someone/something else? Imagine “what the world would be like, if everyone lived their dream”.
Don’t let your dreams die with you. For the love of all those who have spent time on this planet to create the wondrous “dreams into realities” we all enjoy today, please release and realise your dreams.
It is in achieving the reality of our dreams, that we can “Live Your Ultimate Life”.
